Just when we thought that our plate was full in life, God dished us up some dessert!

We made it....so far.

We found the trick to let us get a blood pressure...

Tonsillectomy and adenoidectiomy.....check.

We knew this would have to get done some day....DONE. I can't think of any more procedures we have to do. They told me at the hospital that they are almost, finally, done with the remodeling. I thought to myself, exciting, but I hope I don't have to see it for a very long time :-)
A visit from big sister Lizzy.

Bananas...way to go Ricky.

He bit off more than he could chew....or at least swallow.

Playing with the new iPad2 that we won from Alexander's fundraiser!!!

Happy to be going home...can you tell.

I never saw him like this at the hospital. He was really pretty miserable.  Our worst moment...I worked long and hard to get him to sleep. It was midnight and he finally went limp on my bed. The nurse came in within about 20 minutes and said she had to do vitals, turned the lights on, blood pressure, stethescope, temp......I was furious. He cried for about another 1 1/2 or more hours I think. Then restless all night. His poor brain just couldn't settle down. I gave her a somewhat charitable piece of my mind, really, I tried to be charitable. I'm not so sure I succeeded but I did up front, in the middle of his crying tell her that "IF" I get him to sleep again I refuse her to wake him up again for vitals. AMEN!

And by the way, Jodi, NO I was not driving taking the above video. Dan was.

I'm told the worse is yet to come??? He is napping now and I am happy. That's all I know for now.

  1. Hi Gretchen,

I was thinking about Ricky all day yesterday. I'm glad to hear things are going o.k. Sorry to hear about your tough hospital stay. I would have been crying after the nurse woke Ricky up. Sending you prayers for continued good recovery.

  2. I hope things go well at home for Ricky. Speaking from experience with both of my boys, the worst is really yet to come! Hopefully he will fare better than mine did!

Have a wonderful Mother's Day, Gretchen!

  4. So glad it went well! Honestly, they will NEVER be done remodeling at that hospital! We've been going there for 24 years, and there has ALWAYS been stuff going on! But this most recent phase, I can't even find my way around the building anymore. LOL

  5. Oops, forgot to say that at least with Ricky he has the gt so you won't have to worry about dehydration. Angela didn't have her T&A till she was 11, so long after her gt was out. We ended up back in the hospital twice for IV fluids. Blech! Just give the pain meds round the clock even when he seems fine, stay on the schedule. It's easier to stay ahead of the pain than try to catch up to it. Wish we'd have time to get together again before Axel's surgery!

  6. Pain meds, fluid, love...oh, and patience. And lots of toffee. :) You got all that, right?

    Love wins,

  7. Stay ahead of the pain. That's the best advice I can give you. I woke up Nadia the first few nights to give her a dose of pain meds in the middle of the night and it was well worth it. Also, don't stress if he doesn't eat or drink very much. I know they'll tell you he HAS to drink but I'm seeing (2nd time around now) that they can survive on very little and it's ok. Hope he's doing well. We're on day 10 and she still will only take in about a cup of yogurt and maybe 8 ounces of fluid a day. She's lost some weight but nothing alarming.
